Get More Coaching Clients Series
READ TIME: 1 MIN 40 SEC
You’re here because you want to get more coaching clients for your business. I hear you, and we’re going to get to the good stuff.
But first, we need to address the biggest problem in the life coaching biz:
Nobody actually wants life coaching.
If you’ve been trying to sell yourself and your services as ‘life coaching’, you’re not alone. This is where most coaches get stuck.
Coaching is actually a set of skills. The processes, methods, and tools you learned in becoming a coach are like tools in your toolkit.
Your potential clients don’t really care about coaching or the skills you have.
They care about the transformation that you can help them achieve.
Imagine you’ve hired an interior designer to help you put together a living room. You want something that is both comfortable and well-functioning to host people in.
Imagine you spent months working together, but never actually transformed the room. You’d feel frustrated and disappointed. Regardless of the quality of their swatches and samples.
You don’t actually want interior design. You want a room that functions well for the types of uses you will use it for and that makes you feel a certain way.
What you actually want is the end result.
You hired the interior designer because you believe they can help you get that result.
It’s the same for your clients.
Your clients have something in their lives that they want to achieve or overcome.
You may use coaching to help them get to their desired result, but that’s not what they are buying. They are buying the transformation.
Reflection time:
Spend 2-3 minutes reflecting on how you are currently selling your services. Make a list of where you’re currently focused on selling the coaching itself rather than the result.
These might include:
- How you introduce yourself (your elevator pitch)
- Your website
- Your social media profiles
Don’t worry about getting the result that you’re coaching toward right yet. We will cover that in an upcoming email.
For now, audit your current messaging and make a list of places where you will need to update your language.
In this post, we addressed that your clients don’t actually want coaching. Knowing this will help you to transform the way that you approach your sales and marketing.
In the next post in this series, we’ll address a mindset shift that is essential for every entrepreneur. Especially life coaches.
